Mr M.M. Mngomezulu obtained a Master of Arts degree in Geography and Evironmental Science in 1994 from Miami University, Ohio, in the United States of America, after completing his B Ed senior degree, BA and University Education Diploma from the University of Zululand. These accomplishments were achieved as a recipient of the French Embassy Award for being a consistent teacher trainee in 1987, the EOC/IIE Scholarship as well as the Miami University Grant-in-Aid. Additional qualifications include a Damelin Diploma in Salesmanship and a Certificate in Computer Technology from Unizulu.  He currently serves as a Teaching Practice Programme Coordinator and HOD for the Education Professional Practice Department at the Faculty of Education, which he pioneered in establishing  in 2007. In addition to his achievements, he is a Pioneer and a mentor of note in Teacher Professional development in Initial Teacher Education.  His exra-ordinary passion in this field resulted in the development of Curriculum and Instructional Studies which culminated in the establishment of the restructured

EPP department in 2009 after the Unizulu professional practice programme was commended by HSRC to be showing great improvement in 2008, completion of a three -year inter-provincial project on Curriculum 2005-RSA-Swedish collaboration in 2006, training of Geography Teachers, Environmental Educators and Officers. He is the first programme coordinator appointed at the faculty for Teaching Practice. He taught Didactics and Method of Geography at UED level, further lecturing in Environmental Awareness at B Ed second year and ACE curriculum, computer skills in the Educational Psychology Masters Project as well as in the successful Environmental Education Masters programme in collaboration with UNISA. He is involved in further collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to develop mentorship manuals for school mentors and is deeply involved in the complicated school-university collaborative partnership field acivities. As one of the longest serving members of the Faculty Management Executive, and having valuable experience of working with various Deans and faculty managers, Mr Mngomezulu represents the EPP at various internal structures, such as the Teaching and Learning, Faculty Board committees and faculty and university at external stake holder structures including South African Council for Educators, DBE and KZNDoE. On the community engagement perspective he served as a successful organiser and Administrative Officer of the University of Zululand Winter School for ten years.  He also received an honorary Doctor of Divinity and Office Administration from the Good Sheperd College in 2014.
